Technical Manager

to our Technical team in Product and Market Compliance in the Renewable Products business unit based in Hoofddorp, Netherlands.

Neste produces Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Rotterdam and Singapore, has multiple SAF storage and blending terminals in Europe, APAC and US and sells SAF (blend component) and blended Jet A-1 to the aviation industry.

In this role, you will focus on ensuring SAF delivered by Neste technically meets customer requirements, jet fuel specifications (ASTM, DEF-STAN) and product quality and operating standards across the SAF supply chain (EI, JIG). In doing so, you will work closely with Neste internal teams (Commercial Operations, Supply Chain Management, Logistics) as well as terminal operators and laboratories in Europe and APAC regions. You are the go-to person for troubleshooting, advising on changes in our 

You will also support sales, public affairs and corporate communication teams with technical expertise. You will help steer aviation fuel Core R&D activities, and you will work with external stakeholders (e.g. EI, JIG, IATA, EASA, aviation OEMs) in shaping the technical requirements and frameworks for SAF in the future.

More about the job

Your role in our team

• Ensuring SAF remains on-spec as it moves from our refineries to our customers

• Overseeing quality assurance and compliance with EI/JIG industry standards during shipping, blending, storage and delivery

• Supporting relationships with fellow aviation fuel technical experts of our airline customers, aircraft and engine manufacturers and government agencies

• Cooperating with laboratories and operation teams regarding product testing and quality control documentation

• Cooperating with the logistics team to ensure that SAF storage and blending facilities are fit for purpose.

• Inspecting facilities to ensure compliance with standards

• Maintaining global SAF technical operation standards in the Neste Management System. 

• Steer and support R&D activities related to SAF product testing, engine (emissions) performance, and changes in production impacting SAF product quality 

The best combination to succeed in this role

• Master’s/Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry or related discipline.

• At least 5 years work experience with (aviation) fuels

• Commercial mindset with strong technical and operational background

• Robust analytical skills and proven track record in converting the technical analysis to solutions and concrete action plans

• Good communication skills, ability to make complex technical topics easy to understand

• Proven ability to drive operational improvements and efficiencies

• Willingness to travel

• Responsible attitude and safety-oriented mindset

Other strengths we value

• Understanding of jet fuel product quality requirements and primary fuel specifications for Jet A-1 and Synthetic Blend Components (SBC’s).

• Understanding of and familiarity with EI /JIG standards, JIG credentials and experience with audits/inspections are considered a plus

• Experience and a network in the aviation fuel technical ecosystem
