EU affairs manager

We are looking for an EU Affairs Manager to join our growing Public Affairs team in Brussels, and work closely with the wider PA global function.
Your part in Neste journey
In this position, you will be responsible for representing Neste's views to the European institutions, covering the wide range of Neste renewable and circular solutions, mostly in road transport. You will devise and implement advocacy strategies and build alliances to advance the up-take of renewable-based solutions through legislation. Beyond our dynamic Public Affairs team, you will also work closely with Neste's business teams, R&D and Sustainability as well as external allies to enable success.
The day-to-day responsibilities will notably include:
- Formulate and carry out advocacy strategies to advance Neste’s renewable products solutions at EU level. Key legislative files of relevance for this role include the Industrial Emissions Directive, the EURO 7 standards, and other related legislation dealing with CO2 or pollutant emissions, and RFNBO/H2 production.
- Recognize and handle emerging regulatory issues or opportunities, including files of a technical nature, and translate regulatory information into business insights.
- Closely monitor any new policy development that may be of relevance to Neste, and swiftly inform the relevant team members.
- Persuade political stakeholders, support and expand networks, and represent Neste in policy events, meetings with EU policy makers, and other stakeholder fora.
- Ensure that Neste is firmly embedded in the EU stakeholder landscape, recognized as a trusted advisor and thought leader in renewable and circular solutions.
You will report to the Head of EU Affairs & General Manager of Neste Belgium, who is based in Brussels.
Keys to success in this role
The successful candidate will need to display a good mix of the following experiences, skills and personality traits:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in EU or regulatory affairs, including experience within an EU institution or any organisation aiming to influence policy-making, possibly as a scientific support function. A prior working experience in a key sector such as the automotive industry, the renewable fuel industry, or another directly relevant energy intensive industry would be a plus.
- Degree e.g. in political science, engineering, or a related scientific field.
- Demonstrated ability to understand regulations of a technical nature.
- Direct knowledge and practice of the wider spectrum of Public Affairs disciplines: issues management, advocacy coalition building, campaigning, political intelligence.
- Thorough understanding of EU and/or national environmental, energy, transport and climate change policy and the related political systems and stakeholder landscapes; ability to translate policy developments into business insights and opportunities.
- Ability to handle a growing number of increasingly complex policy and regulatory issues.
- Initiative, driving change and tolerant to ambiguity, excellent networking (external and internal), negotiation, communications and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English, and ideally at least one other EU official language.
- Rock-solid team spirit and a healthy dose of humor.
