We are looking for two

Demurrage Negotiators

to our Bulk Demurrage & Claims Management team in Espoo, Finland.

In this role, you will focus on managing demurrage claims for tanker vessels and barges. The other position is a dual role including both daily back office operations and managing demurrage claims. You will collaborate closely with fellow demurrage negotiators, commercial operations, chartering and contracts teams to mitigate contractual risks and ensure efficient and timely processing of demurrage claims.

In the Demurrage Negotiator role, your responsibilities include

  • Preparing and issuing demurrage claims to customers, suppliers, and charterers.

  • Assessing the legal and contractual validity of demurrage claims from ship owners, customers, and suppliers.

  • Negotiating and resolving disputes.

  • Supporting demurrage invoicing and collection processes.

  • Participating in contract drafting by commenting on laytime and demurrage clauses.

  • Providing legal and operational advice and training to internal stakeholders on demurrage-related matters.

 

In the dual role, your work will be split 50% on daily back office operations and 50% on demurrage claims handling, including

  • Handling and distributing demurrage cases and service requests using Salesforce ServiceCloud.

  • Processing demurrage claims in ERP systems and archiving documents in Google Drive.

  • Preparing and issuing demurrage claims to customers, suppliers, and charterers.

  • Assessing the legal and contractual validity of demurrage claims from ship owners, customers, and suppliers.

  • Negotiating and resolving disputes.

  • Supporting demurrage invoicing and collection processes.

Keys to success in this role 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field, e.g. Business, Maritime or Law

  • Prior experience in shipping or trading operations is beneficial

  • Good legal argumentation and communication skills

  • Detail oriented, systematic and energetic approach to work

  • Fluent English and Finnish, both written and spoken


Other strengths we value

  • Previous experience in in back office operations or demurrage claims handling

  • Experience in using SAP / Salesforce / IMOS
