Lead Platform Engineer

to join our Data Platform team within the Data & IT Platforms unit in Espoo.

Your role as a member of the team is to ensure that the data platform can grow to support the needs of Neste Business Architecture while continuously improving both user experience and operational excellence. Develop and deploy solutions that integrate key aspects of operational excellence, performance efficiency, and cost optimization. The focus is on ensuring systems are designed, managed, and evolved in a way that delivers predictable, high-quality, and cost‐efficient results. Your role in our team

  • Be the primary technical point of contact for a team of internal developers and external partners, setting the coding standards, conducting deep-dive code reviews, and aligning the team on architectural decisions.

  • Act as the primary engineering partner for Cloud, Enterprise, and Data Architects. You will collaborate tightly with them to ensure that data models, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise standards are technically feasible, scalable, and optimized for performance.

  • Define standardized patterns for ingestion, transformation, and discovery, translating complex business requirements into automated and observable platform capabilities

  • Drive Operational Excellence: Champion in a DevOps culture ensuring predictable deployments by empowering development and operations teams to work collaboratively, share responsibility, and continuously improve system design and processes

  • Drive Efficiency & ROI: Establish technical benchmarks that align with business UX requirements while maintaining a rigorous cost-management discipline to ensure all engineering solutions maximize return on investment

 

You will work closely with different kinds of SME’s like data architects, data/ML engineering, analysts, cloud specialist, data platform lead, security, business stakeholders, IT Solution and Enterprise Architects to identify old and new data related needs and solutions. Our work combines accountability, cooperation, and the desire to develop and renew. Working safely at all times is essential to all of us.


The best combination to succeed in this role

  • Master's degree in e.g. engineering, computer science, data-centric engineering

  • Strong proficiency in SQL

  • Experience in data modeling (incl. Data Vault 2.0 and/or Kimball/Inmon methodologies)

  • Familiar with Snowflake & Azure, including well-architected frameworks and their application to data & AI platforms

  • Mastering of CI/CD concepts and tooling, primarily Azure DevOps, as applied to data platforms

  • Proven experience as technical team lead in complex large enterprise ecosystems

  • Working knowledge of Python, including building API’s with FastAPI and developing Snowflake Snowpark procedures

  • Familiar with core Azure services such as Private Endpoints, Log Analytics Workspaces, and Storage Accounts

  • Experience creating skills for LLM-based data tasks

  • Experience with Agile Data Engine (ADE) or Data Build Tool (DBT), or other cloud data warehouse automation tools
