We are looking for you, Summer Trainee, AI/ML Engineering to join our Process Analytics, Automation & AI team in Espoo (Keilaranta). We are a part of the Group Business Processes team, driving business process efficiency and excellence across Neste, as part of the Processes, Data and IT Unit.

Your role during the summer

 

As a Summer Trainee, AI/ML Engineering, you will support the team in developing and delivering AI/ML solutions that help enhance core business processes. You’ll get hands-on exposure to real business challenges and learn how AI is applied in an industrial and global company environment.

 

During the summer you will:

  • Support AI/ML development work across the lifecycle: data preparation, prototyping, model training, and validation

  • Assist in building pipelines and APIs to integrate models into business operations

  • Help with documentation and reproducibility (clear notebooks, version control, and solution descriptions)

  • Participate in data quality checks and monitoring, helping ensure reliable model performance

  • Collaborate closely with AI/ML engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders, learning how to translate needs into practical solutions

  • Contribute to MLOps practices, such as basic CI/CD tasks, model packaging, deployment support, or retraining workflows (depending on your background)

 

What we're looking for:

 

Education & background:

  • Currently studying or recently graduated in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field

Technical skills

  • Strong Python skills with hands-on experience working with data (pandas, Jupyter notebooks, etc.)

  • Solid understanding of version control using Git

  • SQL and basic data querying experience is a big plus

  • Genuine interest in machine learning engineering and how models drive real business impact

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues alike

  • Curious, proactive mindset with a readiness to take ownership of tasks

  • Eager to learn how ML models are built, deployed, and integrated into production systems

 

Great to have (but not required)

  • Familiarity with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow)

  • Some experience with cloud platforms (GCP / AWS / Azure) or tools like Vertex AI, SageMaker, Azure ML

  • Interest or experience in GenAI, Agentic AI, RAG pipelines, or Large Language Models (LLM) based solutions (e.g., LangChain)

  • Any exposure to CI/CD, Git workflows, testing, or software engineering best practices

  • Interest in industrial use cases like supply chain, manufacturing, operations, or commercial planning

The job is located in Keilaranta, Espoo, with excellent transport connections. Currently we work regularly at least three days a week at the office to ensure seamless collaboration and sense of belonging.

 

The position follows the collective agreement for senior salaried employees. If you are in the early stages of your studies, the minimum starting salary is 2350 EUR. Your salary will also depend on relevant work experience and, for students, the number of completed course credits. We welcome applications from both current students and those who have graduated after 1st January 2025. Please note that you must be at least 18 years old at the start of employment. The summer job typically takes place between May 1 and September 30, 2026.
