We are looking for a Renewable Products Trader

to join our growing, developing and exciting RP Supply team based in Houston, Texas or Hutchinson, MN. In this role, you will be part of an international team, belonging to the Global Supply organization in the Renewable Products business sector.

We have a small but growing team of experts working in RP Supply.  Our team is responsible for sourcing and trading sustainable feedstocks for Neste refineries as well as developing and building relationships with suppliers and trade counterparts within the region.  

Your part in the Neste journey

  • The Trader is a portfolio owner in his/her geography, identifies opportunities, and designs and seeks approval for sourcing and trading strategy within the specific geography as aligned with the Global Feedstock Owner.

  • The Trader develops new or builds on existing relationships in the market among feedstock producers, merchants, and end users to introduce key decision makers to the business, and negotiate supply contracts.

  • The Trader links the sourced feedstock volumes with Neste’s Global Feedstocks Supply Chain and oversees logistics, contracts negotiation, and development and implementation of sourcing and trading strategies.

  • The Trader will play a key role in driving sustainability and regulatory awareness through Neste’s supply base along with bringing in-depth knowledge and experience of trading markets and trade flows to embed optionality in supply agreements and develop opportunistic tracing around physical flows longer term.

In this role, you will support in these areas

  • Supplier Relationships

    • Develop and take lead on supplier relationships, including identifying, developing and maintaining relationships with key decision makers. Actively work towards the consistent increase of supply counterparties available in the geography under their responsibility

    • Following supplier segmentation exercise, develop a plan/relationship per supplier according to potential impact to Neste

  • Strategic

    • Develop and implement Supply Strategy in the respective geography

    • Work as part of the Global Feedstock Organization to develop Neste’s positioning in the markets to increase feedstock supply portfolio

    • Drive Regulatory and Sustainability Agenda in line with Global/Local Policies

  • Operational

    • Work to optimize the logistic/supply chain cost

    • Negotiate needed contracts with suppliers and trade counterparts to ensure business needs

    • Develop accurate market information/analysis on biofuels and feedstocks markets to provide insight to Senior Management on market trade flows and practices, including identification of further trading opportunities in the region

    • Liaise and collaborate with multiple internal business units locally and globally including Supply, Trading, and Operations

  • Market pulse

    • Take constant pulse of the market, industry drivers and trends

    • Communicate relevant, impactful market information to other regions and teams, support short-term optimization and inform longer-term strategic development

Keys to success in this role

The best combination of experiences, skills and background is 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, environmental sciences or related field or relevant experience

  • Minimum 5 years proven commercial experience within biofuel feedstock supply/trading, preferably with knowledge in energy markets

  • Experience in physical land and waterborne logistics/supply chain management

  • Proven knowledge of biofuels/feedstock products legislation and regulations

  • Robust analytical skills

  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, interpersonal skills, and customer service
