Neste’s regional headquarters in North America is in Houston, Texas and the company employs more than 500 people across the US.

 

In March of 2022, Neste signed definitive agreements for the establishment of a 50/50 joint venture (Martinez Renewable Fuels) with US-based Marathon Petroleum.  The joint venture will produce renewable diesel from Marathon’s refinery in Martinez, California.  Through this joint venture Neste obtains a 50% interest in the Martinez Renewable Fuels.

We are looking for a Tax Manager (Income Tax / M&A) based in Houston, Texas to be a part of our growth and new business opportunities here in the US.

 

Job Summary:

We have a medium size global team of experts working in the Tax and Customs area. The Tax manager will be working closely with several internal stakeholders and the tax authorities as well as partners.  

 

Our growth and scalability in the US market offer an excellent opportunity for an income tax expert to enhance his/her tax and development skills. Participating in M&A projects as well as coordinating and communicating the post integration within the Tax and Customs team and beyond would be the key responsibilities of this position. Furthermore, following income tax compliance and its development in the US, providing internal instructions and training, providing and/or coordinating advice and interpretation on tax rules, performing scenario planning and recommending solutions for tax and customs optimization as well as negotiating and maintaining relationships with tax authorities and key stakeholders would be part of this role and assignment.

 

Our team is responsible for leading tax and customs compliance and development, providing internal instructions and training, providing advice and interpretation on tax and customs rules, performing scenario planning and recommending solutions for tax and customs optimization, negotiating and maintaining relationships with tax authorities.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and ensure income tax compliance with local authorities

  • Participate and coordinate tax planning of the respective tax types supporting M&A team

  • Develop and ensure that the respective income tax procedures and controls are compliant

  • Follow the development of local and international income tax rules and initiate needed actions

  • Coordinate implementation of decisions, guidelines and legislation changes in income taxation processes

  • Provide oversight and advice on interpretation of income tax rules

  • Perform scenario planning and make applicable recommendations

  • Provide instructions and in-house tax trainings

  • Negotiate and maintain good relationship with tax authorities and partners

  • Coordinate income tax audits and litigations

  • Proactively identify opportunities for automation and digitalization

 

Results Expectations:

  • JV integration model and tax practices setup and

  • Tax compliance roadmap developed and implemented for Neste in the US.

 

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Deep knowledge in at least one tax type and/or M&A,

  • Can-do attitude, development mindset and skills,

  • Team player flexibility, 

  • Project management skills,

  • Good negotiation and communication skills and

  • A desire to develop and renew.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree or similar, preferably in taxation or accounting and

  • At least 5 years of experience from tax consultancy and/or in-house tax function and/or authority side.
