We are looking for a 

Head of PMO, Major Investment Projects

to join our Major Investment Projects department in the Investment Projects Execution and Governance function at Neste. This position is located in Porvoo, Finland.

As the Head of PMO, Major Investment Projects, you will serve as the direct superior to our team of experienced Project Directors and Senior Project Managers. You will not only be their leader but also their key professional advisor, providing high-level technical and managerial support. Additionally, you will play a critical, hands-on role in supporting our major investment projects across all lifecycle phases, ensuring those are properly planned and executed in a safe and predictable way, on budget and time.

The job is located in Kilpilahti, Porvoo, which is about 30 minutes by car from the center of Helsinki. We organize free bus transportation to Kilpilahti for our employees from the capital region, Porvoo and the nearby areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Team Development: Serve as the direct manager for our team of seasoned Project Directors and Senior Project Managers, fostering a culture defined by predictability, efficiency, and continuous professional growth.
• Professional Mentorship: Act as the senior advisor, providing expert-level guidance and mentorship on complex technical and professional challenges inherent in major projects planning and execution.
• Support for Major Projects:
  • Provide hands-on support for major investment projects across all project phases — from early FEL (Front-End-Loading) phases to execution, commissioning, start-up and handover
  • Strengthen major projects delivery by implementing a risk-based assurance framework, utilizing cold-eye reviews and other high-impact evaluation methods to improve project maturity and performance
  • Validate major projects maturity at the end of project phase (Project Quality Review)
• Independent Investment Review: Conduct holistic, fit-for-purpose independent investment reviews, ensuring objective and adequate data is presented for critical decision-making on high-value capital expenditure.
• Best Practices: Drive the enhancement of the project system, ensuring utilization with internal and industry best practices and company goals.

Keys to success in this role

• M.Sc. in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Extensive experience in industrial related project management and EPCM/ EPC environment (Power, Oil & Gas, Mining or Technology sector)

• Strong front-line project background of managing demanding international major projects

• Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and developing senior-level project professionals 

• Responsible attitude and safety-oriented mindset

• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills. The ability to balance empathy with a strong performance orientation

• Project Management studies and certification such as PMI's Project Management Professional.
