Lead / Chief engineer for Thermal engineering position

to join our Thermal equipment team in Mechanical Engineering in Porvoo, Finland.

You will work closely with our engineering disciplines to strengthen engineering in different process and energy industry projects globally and externally with our equipment vendors and stakeholders. Our work combines accountability, cooperation, and the desire to develop and renew.

We have an international team of experts working in Mechanical Engineering. Our team is responsible for challenging, rewarding and diverse work tasks in study, basic engineering and detailed engineering project phases. We cooperate with different technology providers and support expediting and commissioning project phases in large scale investment projects. Together with your expertise, we can do meaningful work to drive Neste forward.

This position is located in our Technology Center in Kilpilahti, Porvoo, which is about 30 minutes by car from the center of Helsinki. We organize free bus transportation to Kilpilahti for our employees from the capital region, Porvoo and the nearby areas. Partial remote working or working at our office in Espoo are also possible.

We are looking for thermal engineering professionals with a profound knowledge in thermal equipment dimensioning, combustion and fired equipment such as furnaces and solid experience in leading package equipment deliveries in the international process industry projects.

Your role in our team


  • Act as a Thermal Engineering expert to strengthen our group of Lead and Chief Engineers in a global Mechanical Engineering team.

  • Take Lead/Chief Engineer's responsibility within challenging, rewarding and diverse international process and energy industry projects.

  • Execute the design work in accordance with project objectives and the design procedures.

  • Specify, evaluate, select and engineer fired equipment related packages for reliable, cost-effective and efficient operation.

  • Participate in bid preparation, vendor negotiations, execution planning and cost estimates of our projects and act as a single point of contact towards vendors for the assigned scope of equipment.

  • Conduct thermal calculations and analysis for thermal equipment.

  • Participate in troubleshooting and technical assessments of fired heaters and heat exchangers in cooperation with maintenance and operations in all production sites.

  • Share and develop your deep know-how and technical skills along with close collaboration with our partners and global resources such as material-, process-, civil-, layout & piping departments.

 

The best combination to succeed in this role

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a similar education.

  • Several years of working experience in project work and strong knowledge of thermal equipment e.g. furnaces, burners, hot oil heaters, shell & tube heat exchangers and air coolers.

  • Knowledge of design principles and performance characteristics as well as understanding of operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures for furnaces, burners, hot oil heaters, shell & tube heat exchangers and air coolers.

  • Experience of relevant standards, such as EN, ASME, API and TEMA and safety regulations applicable to pressure equipment and fired heaters in hazardous environments.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), Machinery Directive (MD) and ATEX Directive.

  • Experience in the areas for example detail engineering, manufacturing, NDT-testing, expediting and commissioning.

  • Experience of FRNC5, Aspen Fired Heater, HTRI Xfh or similar software and Aspen EDR, HTRI, Autodesk Inventor and AutoCad.

  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written, is essential. Proficiency in Finnish will be considered an asset.

  • Team player with leadership skills and technical authority.
