Process Safety Engineer

to join our Process Safety team and this position is located in Porvoo, Finland.

We are a team of process safety professionals working in the Oil Products organisation. Our team is responsible for maintaining and executing an efficient Life cycle PHA Process and prioritized queue of risk reduction investment projects in Oil Products. We also support in developing Process hazard analysis (PHA) methods, tools and processes in cooperation with the Group Operational & Process Safety team and contribute to the update of corporate HSE standards and work instructions.

As a Process Safety Engineer you will facilitate and manage the lifecycle HAZOP’s, LOPA’s, AEA’s and FHA’s. We expect you to be both a technical expert and a skilled facilitator, capable of leading the team to identify and manage potential hazards effectively. We offer a position being part of an experienced process safety team with the ability to further develop your skills to become a subject matter expert in process safety, learning both from the projects and refinery processes. HAZOP and LOPA facilitation is the core part of this job and significant experience in these is a must to succeed.

The job is located in Kilpilahti, Porvoo, which is about 30 minutes by car from the center of Helsinki. We organize free bus transportation to Kilpilahti for our employees from the capital region, Porvoo and the nearby areas.

Your role in our team 

  • Lead and facilitate Process hazard analysis sessions (e.g. HAZOP, LOPA) and other PHA studies, encouraging open dialogue, brainstorming, and collaboration

  • Maintain the balance between depth and progress during studies ensuring clear and accurate documentation

  • Develop and maintain Process Hazard Analyses practices in cooperation with other stakeholders

  • Provide technical expertise and support on process safety issues

  • Train and actively communicate Process Safety related issues to the stakeholders

 

Keys to success in this role

  • M.Sc. in Chemical/Process engineering or equivalent

  • In-depth knowledge of PHA related methodologies and relevant regulations

  • Excellent facilitation and leadership qualities 

  • Several years experience with Process Safety in high hazard Chemical industry

  • Thorough understanding of fire hazards and fireproofing practices in high hazard chemical process industry

  • Several years experience of facilitating process hazard analysis (e.g. HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID)

  • LOPA expertise (SIL-classification)

  • Knowledge of relevant Finnish and international Safety regulation and standards (e.g. Seveso, API, NFPA, ISO)

  • Understanding of investment project lifecycle

  • Fluent Finnish and English skills, both written and spoken.
