Researcher / Senior Researcher,  Material Chemist for Corrosion Research

 

to join our Refining & Technology Validation Research team at the Porvoo Technology Center, Finland. You will become part of the Catalysts & Refining department, a dedicated group of approximately 30 professionals focused on key areas including catalysis, conversion / refining technologies, corrosion studies, and refinery support.

 

As Material Chemist Researcher, you will be a key enabler in developing new corrosion data and understanding material performance through experimental work. Your expertise on materials, their performance, and especially on chemical interaction with materials (inorg. chemistry) will be leveraged  in product and technology development projects, vital to Neste’s strategic growth. This role also involves providing expert service and support to our refineries on corrosion-related questions.

 

This position involves close collaboration with internal stakeholders, including experts from the Technology & Innovation function (researchers, operators, project/program managers) and refinery personnel across all Neste sites, as well as external stakeholders. More about the job

Your role in our team

 

  • Providing Material science expertise in the material research and corrosion area. Expertise and understanding of inorganic chemistry related to materials is seen as highly beneficial and appreciated. Earlier experience on reaction thermodynamics is highly valued. 

  • Planning and supervising laboratory work and testing in laboratory to pilot scale equipment.

  • Supporting Neste’s production units in corrosion and material related questions, attending troubleshooting cases when needed.

  • Documenting, reporting and presenting key results, findings and providing expert recommendations.

  • Active development of own know-how and competence within Neste technology areas.

  • Acting responsibly according to Neste safety culture: interfering unsafe actions and reporting deviations.

  • Being active in the innovation processes of Neste.

 

The job is located in Kilpilahti, Porvoo, which is about 30 minutes by car from the center of Helsinki. We organize free bus transportation to Kilpilahti for our employees from the capital region, Porvoo and the nearby areas.


Keys to success in this role 

 

  • A Master's degree or preferably higher in relevant field, e.g. Materials Chemistry, Material Engineering, Material Technology

  • For Senior Researcher position PhD degree and several years (10+ years) working experience in the Materials research and corrosion area

  • Experience of material analysis methods and techniques (e.g. microscopy, X-ray analytics) 

  • Hands-on attitude towards experimental work and experience of laboratory work

  • Innovative attitude to actively seek solutions and motivation to learn and deepen your knowledge in different materials and their properties

  • Good communication, influencing and collaboration skills with full professional proficiency in English, both spoken and written

  • Good self-leadership skills being able to deliver results

  • Safety-oriented mindset

  • Knowledge of how to work safely in a laboratory is necessary.

 

Other strengths we value

  • Experience of material failure analysis 

  • Experience of piloting research

  • Experience in acting in international environment

  • Excellent data handling skills e.g. Sheets

  • Previous work experience related to renewable oils and fats processing, particularly to upgrading technologies

  • Experience in IPR creation
