Senior Process Safety Engineer
to join our global Project HSE team and this position is located in Porvoo, Finland.
Our medium-sized team of process safety professionals is vital for ensuring the successful execution of Neste’s investment projects. We focus on four key areas: implementing Neste HSE requirements across the project lifecycle, facilitating and managing lifecycle HAZOPs and LOPAs for our global refineries (Singapore, Rotterdam), supporting the development of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) methods, and contributing to corporate HSE standards.
In this new, critical role, you will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in HAZOP and LOPA. Your primary focus is on both hands-on execution and quality oversight of these analyses within projects. Significant experience in HAZOP and LOPA facilitation is essential, and we are seeking a dedicated LOPA expert with a strong functional safety background. You will work in close cooperation with engineering and refinery teams but operate with a global scope within our experienced process safety team.

The job is located in Kilpilahti, Porvoo, which is about 30 minutes by car from the center of Helsinki. We organize free bus transportation to Kilpilahti for our employees from the capital region, Porvoo and the nearby areas.

Your role in our team

Facilitate process hazard analyses (e.g. HAZOP, LOPA) and other PHA studies in investment projects

Serve as a subject matter expert in LOPA methodology and its application to safety system design

Apply Functional Safety principles (e.g., IEC 61511) to the specification of Safety Instrumented System (SIS) requirements during LOPA, ensuring these requirements are clearly communicated to the automation department.

Mentor and train other engineers in the principles and practices of HAZOP, LOPA, Functional Safety awareness, and other PHA methodologies.

Responsible that legislative and company HSE requirements are implemented accordingly in investment projects

Lead and report HSE activities of investment projects, training and actively communicate HSE related issues to the project organization and other stakeholders

Develop best practices related to process safety and process hazard analyzes in cooperation with other stakeholders
Keys to success in this role

Extensive experience in process safety, with a strong focus on HAZOP and LOPA (+10years)

M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Chemical/Process engineering or a related field
-
Thorough understanding of process safety, risk management of high hazard chemical process industry
-
Proven ability to lead and facilitate HAZOP and LOPA studies, ensuring thorough hazard identification, risk assessment, and appropriate selection of independent protection layers.

LOPA expertise

Solid understanding of Functional Safety principles (e.g., IEC 61511) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
-
Strong understanding of process safety regulations and industry standards

Ability to organize and lead HSE activities in investment projects

Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills

Fluent English skills, both written and spoken

Responsible attitude and safety-oriented mindset
