Head of Safety, Netherlands Operations


to lead the Safety team covering Neste’s operations in the Netherlands


You will focus on leading the Safety organization while supporting Neste’s Renewables Production business objectives. Your team consists of 7 professionals, including four direct reports.  In this job you will work closely with various internal stakeholders including Renewables Production Netherlands site organizations and cross-discipline colleagues in Safety. You will be part of the Neste Safety Leadership Team and reporting to the Vice President, Safety. The job location is at our refinery site in Maasvlakte, Rotterdam.

Your role in our team

 

  • Develop and successfully implement a comprehensive Safety strategy fully integrated with business objectives at all levels in the organization;
  • Lead and develop the cross-discipline Netherlands Operations Safety organization comprising safety, process safety, security, environment and quality professionals;
  • Enable Safety professionals to play a proactive role in improving the safety of work in their area(s) of responsibility - ensuring a strong focus on high-value jobs which generate tangible safety benefits;
  • Ensure effective and efficient implementation of the Neste safety management system (“OEMS”) in our Netherlands operations: Rotterdam Refinery, Sluiskil and Netherlands Terminal (Vlaardingen);
  • Provide strategic input within the Neste Safety team, allocating your resources to promote and enable a unified and consistent approach to Safety across Neste.

 

Keys to success in this role

 

  • 10+ years of proven experience overseeing multi-disciplinary teams working within Process Safety critical / high hazard facilities;
  • Strong foundation in Process Safety Management;
  • Solid understanding of contemporary principles in Safety Management and their practical application;
  • Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships, influencing in a matrix organization;
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of our Safety systems and processes, leveraging data-driven insights and emerging industry trends;
  • Relevant Masters level degree, for example: safety science, chemical, mechanical or process engineering.

  • Excellent written and verbal English and Dutch, fluency in Finnish is a strong plus.
