Industrial Hygienist
to join our Safety Team in the Singapore Refinery
You will focus on preventing occupational illness and disease by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling environmental factors arising in the workplace which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort to the workforce.
In this job you will collaborate and work closely with the safety team, stakeholders from other functions and departments including the Corporate Safety Team in Finland.
You will provide your expertise to our Refinery on matters of industrial hygiene (IH) and occupational health & safety (OH&S).
In our Safety team, you will report to the Safety Manager. As the technical authority and expert in IH and OH&S, you manage and lead the refinery in IH and OH&S function to reduce operational risk exposure to the workforce through governance of OEMS principles, regulatory compliance and requirements. Risk Identification, Evaluation and Control
-
Proactively anticipate and recognize chemical hazards, physical hazards, biological hazards, and ergonomic hazards across refining areas

Design, execute, and manage comprehensive Industrial Hygiene (IH) monitoring programs. Conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments for airborne contaminants, chemical exposure, noise & physical agents and ergonomic risk

Interpret monitoring results against local (MOM/WSH) and internationally recognized (ACGIH/OSHA) standards

Conduct routine Occupational Hygiene site inspections and audits, focusing on exposure risks, ventilation systems (LEVs), and chemical storage/handling procedures
Control Measures and Management Systems
-
Recommend, implement effective industrial hygiene engineering as key control strategies and evaluate its effectiveness

Oversight chemical inventory, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management, and risk assessment process for hazardous substances

Develop and enforce stringent chemical handling procedures
-
Administer and manage IH Management system and programs such as Ventilation Systems, Hazard Communications, PPE standards, Ergonomic standards, heat stress program, medical examination & surveillance program, Hearing Conservation Program (HCP), including noise mapping, audiometric testing, noise control implementation, process and office ergonomic program

Conduct industrial hygiene risk assessments for process work area, offices, laboratory, recommending necessary adjustments and controls measures
Strategizing Regulatory Compliance (PEL, STEL, TWA, C) and Translating to Operable Compliance

Translate PEL, STEL, OEL requirement into practical, executable operational compliance

Deep working knowledge of Singapore and international acts, regulations, requirements related to industrial hygiene topics

Ensure strict adherence to permissible/occupational exposure limit and relevant regulations and Codes of Practice relating to occupational health and safety

Prepare detailed industrial hygiene reports, regulatory submissions and internal performance metrics. Maintain accurate records of all monitoring data, calibration records, and exposure assessments

Provide technical support and expertise during health-related emergency response situations (e.g chemical spills)
Training and Collaboration

Develop and deliver targeted training programs on industrial hygiene topics, including chemical management and hazard communication, PPE use, respiratory protection, noise conservations, heat stress, ergonomics

Collaborate closely with cross functional teams to integrate industrial hygiene into daily operations, projects and Process Safety Management (PSM).

Participate as safety subject matter expert in incident investigation team, facilitate Safety department owned investigations or as directed

Technical expert in industrial hygiene, occupational health role and operationalized industrial hygiene into day to day operations

Minimum 10 years experience as a practicing industrial hygienist in a refinery, petrochemical or chemical manufacturing industry; track record in industrial hygiene monitoring (chemical, physical and biological to personal and area exposure) IH engineering control, IH Management System

Recognized Bachelor Degree in Safety or similar, master degree in industrial hygiene highly desired

Professionally certified industrial hygienist (CIH) or registered industrial hygienist (RIH) or equivalent. Candidates without IH certification but demonstrate mastery and proven track record in IH will be considered
