Lead Design Engineer, Instrumentation
to our Investment Project Execution and Governance (IPEG) team in Singapore
We have a small team of experts working in the engineering team and your role is responsible for the execution of the instrumentation scope in plant investment projects to the agreed scope, quality and schedule. We also support any development and growth projects which may be initiated from time to time in line with our strategic objectives. In this job you will work closely with other engineering team members, members of the local IPEG team members, refinery stakeholders from various disciplines such as Technical, Maintenance and Operations and also collaborate with colleagues from IPEG from other locations such as Porvoo (Finland) and Rotterdam (Netherlands)

Your role in our team / in creating a sustainable future
The Lead Design Engineer - Instrumentation is responsible and accountable for delivering the instrumentation scope in accordance with Neste’s project delivery process, governance procedures and specifications
Accountabilities include:

Delivering the instrumentation scope to the agreed quality, cost and schedule on small / medium / large and complex investment projects and development initiatives

Managing the resource allocation and performance of own team members, external partners. external EPCm contractors through all project phases

Developing own technical competence and improving ways of working towards improving
Responsibilities include
In your role, you will be responsible for the instrumentation design work and leading design teams in both local and international projects. Instrumentation engineering in our projects includes all project phases from idea creation, pre-study and feasibility study via basic engineering to detailed engineering and As Built phase. In addition, our instrument engineers are also involved in pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up phases

Perform design tasks according to the agreed quality, scope, time and safety

Develop, implement and apply Neste defined design engineering work methods and tools systematically

Manage own performance, and the performance of the work share partners
-
Develop oneself in leading design work and workshare partners, or towards becoming a design specialist of own engineering discipline
-
Collaborate and network with other design disciplines, workshare partners, suppliers and customers
-
Participate in bid preparation, execution planning and cost estimates
-
Take part in developing our instructions and way of working
-
Provide engineering support in resolving site queries and site issues
-
Participate as construction supervisor for instrumentation works at site during turnarounds and shutdowns
Keys to success in this role
The best combination of experiences, skills and background is
-
Bachelor's or Master's engineering degree in instrumentation, or similar
-
Minimum 15 years of total experience including at least 10 years of experience in leading the design work of complex projects according to the agreed quality, scope, time and safety including working on brownfield projects in existing refinery
-
Knowledge of relevant national and international standards and regulations
-
Experience in conducting field surveys to gather relevant information for performing instrumentation design works in brownfield refinery
-
Thorough knowledge of various types of instruments and automated valves, and preparation of its associated documentation such as specifications, datasheets, instrument layout drawings, Exi calculation reports, cable schedules, loop diagrams, cable tray and conduit layouts, air consumption calculations etc.

Experience with various packaged equipment
-
Good understanding of information flow and interfaces among other engineering disciplines
-
Working knowledge of various SPI modules
-
Experience in purchasing activities right from preparation of material requisitions, to technical bid evaluations followed by vendor documentation review post order placement and attending FATs and SATs
-
Experience in preparation of job definitions (construction scope of work and specifications) for the instrumentation scope, evaluation of technical bids submitted by construction contractors.

Experience in construction support such as loop checks, participation in mechanical completion walkdowns
-
Good understanding of information flow and interfaces among other engineering disciplines

Experience in executing projects using the workshare model
