Mechanical Field Engineer
to our integrated Maintenance & Asset Management team in Tuas Refinery.
You will focus on proactive mechanical maintenance execution and championing a shared reliability mindset. In this job, you will work closely with Asset Management, Operations, Technical, and HSSEQ teams as ONE cohesive unit.
In our team, you will provide direction and supervision to Static, Rotating, Civil, or Ad-hoc contractors. This position is responsible for helping the organization achieve maintenance excellence and reliability improvements by shifting our focus from reactive firefighting to proactively preventing failures. Job purpose, why the job exists? The purpose of the Mechanical Field Engineer is to provide direction and supervision of the mechanical team and contractors within the plant area. This position is responsible for helping the organization achieve maintenance excellence/reliability through the execution of mechanical tasks, managing daily work quality, and solving frontline technical problems to ensure continuous operation. Beyond execution, you will champion our "Prevention-First" culture, driving the shift from reactive firefighting to proactive failure prevention.
Key accountabilities
- Maintenance Execution: Ensure all static & rotating equipment maintenance is carried out according to approved standards and corporate requirements. This includes meeting all Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Cost targets, and ensuring compliance with MOC, PHA, and PSSR processes.
- Field Services: Ensure effective and efficient maintenance services of static and rotating equipment in the process area. You will lead frontline troubleshooting, cross-discipline coordination, and deliver assigned Turnaround and Project maintenance activities.
- Day-to-Day Operations: Manage inventory, subcontractor work quality, and team performance to meet operational costs. You will actively work to eliminate bad actors using root cause analysis (RCA) and A3 problem-solving, and develop training plans to ensure your team has the proper skills.
Impact to Neste strategy and the expected business impact
You will ensure minimum downtime of equipment resulting from “first time right” maintenance and good productivity. Your work directly fuels our strategic roadmap to High Reliability / Equipment Availability and supports our productivity initiatives aimed at reducing non-productive time across operations.

- Adjust the plan on contractor or vendor resources.
- Adjust execution to the site situation and plan as required based on experience, while ensuring a safe and quality outcome.
Job requirements
- Education: Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience: At least 7 years of relevant experience in the refinery and petrochemical industry.
- Prior Experience in Maintenance, Projects, and TAs execution.
- Skill in the usage of SAP and/or relevant CMMS for maintenance execution work.
- Knowledgeable with international standards, petroleum/petrochemical plant equipment.
- Experienced in maintenance work control, planning, and reliability methodologies.
- Good communication with strategic thinking, negotiation, and business sense.
- Ability to read P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and isometric drawings.
- Competency in collecting required field information for analyzing trends and patterns, and problem-solving capability (Basic knowledge in light RCA).
- Basic understanding of reliability methodologies.
- Familiar with basic data collection for vibration monitoring and alignment techniques (laser alignment).
- Ability to read pump curves and basic compressor maintenance.
- A deeply ingrained safety-oriented mindset and responsible attitude.

- Internal: Operations, Technical, Maintenance sub-teams, Asset Management, HSSE, Procurement. You will collaborate seamlessly as ONE cohesive unit with these teams to drive reliability.
