Project Director, Neste Site Investment Projects

to our Investment Project Execution and Governance team in Singapore.

The Project Director serves as the single point of project leadership from the beginning of project to the Closeout. You will focus on providing project leadership over project management due to the inherent complexity of major projects. You will work closely with the Project Owner and the project team, maintaining a holistic view of the project.

In our team, you will create the conditions under which the entire project team can perform to the best of their ability. You will lead the team by clarifying strategic direction, setting project priorities, resolving conflicts, and effectively managing and building relationships with internal external stakeholders.

Your role in our team

The Project Director is accountable and responsible for delivering the project in accordance with Neste’s project delivery process and governance procedures.

Accountabilities include:

• Safely and effectively delivering the project in accordance with project and business objectives and project performance targets, including (but not limited to) safety, capital cost, project schedule, risk management, and plant operability.

• Robust internal and external stakeholder management

• Holistic project risk management and for communicating and escalating risks to relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

• Actively promoting a safety culture in all project activities through all project phases.

• Managing the interface between the Project Owner and the project team, which includes keeping the Project Owner informed and escalating critical issues as appropriate.

• Developing and leading an effective project organisation that integrates all technical and non-technical functions required for successful production operations, including solutions having a long-term impact on the operations of the facility, applying a whole life-cycle approach.

• Setting the overall direction for the project team, and for translating the defined business objectives and project priorities into a clear project vision, including clear and coherent project objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

• Energising and motivating the team through leadership engagement and creation of an inclusive work environment, in which the full project organisation is heard and encouraged to be transparent.

• Provide clarity and transparency of project status for the team and key stakeholders with implementation of robust ways of working for target setting, change management and reporting processes

• Drive active collaboration and co-creation of commissioning & startup and Operational Readiness with key stakeholders

Keys to success in this role / The best combination to succeed in this role

• Degree in Technical or Engineering discipline

• More than 10 years of experience are required in

  • Process industry having technical insight preferably in oil refining or chemical industry.

  • Technical knowledge and experience of project management (in Project Director or Senior Project Manager role), particularly for large, complex projects.

  • Leading local and global matrix organizations, utilizing cross-functional networks to drive high-performance teams and have a deep understanding of how teams form, align, and operate.

  • Cultivating high-performing teams through coaching and effective delegation, while defining clear standards for excellence in project delivery. Proactive risk assurance and quality management, employing "what-if" thinking, cold-eye reviews, and the systematic application of Best Practices and Lessons learned from recent major projects.

  • Navigating extreme project complexity, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to changing constraints and develop structured, alternative routes for large-scale investments.

  • Project Controls (incl. cost, schedule, reporting and advanced change management processes)

  • Handover & PSSRs (Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews).

  • Ability to always act in a manner that represents Neste’s interest (e.g., courage to intervene and provide timely feedback and to handle challenging situations and negotiations).
