Research Assistant / Specialist

to our Analytics team in the R&D department in Neste APAC Innovation Center, Science Park II, Singapore.


You will focus on organic materials characterization and analytic; work including various semi-solid and/or liquid materials analyses, project and R&D works, troubleshooting, and method development and validation. In this job you will work closely with other research assistants, research assistants, researchers, research experts, project managers and line managers in cross-functional teams mainly from Technology & Innovation, and Production/Refinery. 


In our team, the work is done independently, but support to others and collaboration is essential for our success. You will work engagingly with other teams, i.e Feedstock & Pretreatment, Inorganic (Analytics), Supply Chain, Quality Control, etc. Together with your expertise, we can do meaningful work to drive Neste forward.

Your role in our team

  • Run organic analytical testing, preparing standard solutions, and running pre-set and/or new methods on instruments such as GC / GCxGC / GCMS / HPLC / LCMS / FTIR and other wide range organic analysis.

  • Records raw experimental data and prepares spreadsheets for a review. Performs data analysis, interpreting and identifying substances and/or properties in material complexes.

  • Develop and validate new organic analytical methods for various samples.

  • Acts as a subject matter expert who can design experiments/testing and troubleshoot complex instrumental failures and challenging data processing.

  • Conduct risk assessments for new chemical protocols, monitor overall lab compliance and safety, in addition to managing bench-level safety and safety responsibilities in HSSEQ. 

 

Keys to success in this role

  • Diploma / B. Sc. / B.S. in Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry or a related field from a reputable university.

  • Several years working experience with wide competence in organic analytics would be an added advantage. 

  • Hands-on experience experience in organic chemistry, method development, and semi-solid/solid/liquid materials characterization techniques including but not limited to;

    • GC / GCxGC / GC-MS / LCMS

    • HPLC

    • FTIR

Experience in these instrumentation and skills would be an added advantage.

  • Practical experience in wet chemistry: proficiency in organic sample preparation and troubleshooting.

  • Good understanding in organic chemistry, chemical instrumentation and chemical analytics, method validation and R&D project work.

  • For data analysis, able to interpret complex spectra/findings, perform statistical validation, and utilize LIMS.

  • Fluent English language skills.

  • Responsible attitude, safety-oriented and R&D-mindset.
